A company providing specialist insurance and legal services was facing a problem in that its costs were too high and that an incentive scheme which had served the company well for some years was now disproportionately expensive.

Previous attempts had been made at restructuring the company and amending the incentive scheme but no progress had been made. There were particular considerations with TUPE.

We provided the necessary advice and support in discussions with the employees concerned in order to ensure that the changes were this time brought into effect. A small number of employees was made redundant and we provided outplacement support to them with the intention of assisting them to face the future confidently.

We also assisted in recruiting new staff where necessary with the skills and attitudes required to succeed in the newly formed company.

The restructured business traded with great success in the subsequently.

New Management Structure

A College of Further Education wished to completely revise its management structure. The existing structure had been in place for some time and no longer was representative of the needs of the learners. The envisaged change required a reduction from nine down to four senior posts.

We wrote a competency framework for the senior academic positions and built a series of exercises and case studies around this framework. We trained some Governors and existing senior managers including the Principal in how to use the framework and assess the exercises. We also briefed internal administrators and role players. We also chaired the final assessment process.

All internal and external candidates were assessed using this process and as a result fair and objective decisions were made.

The new structure was implemented and all appointments have been successful.
